TuneCore is one of the oldest names in independent distribution and it has the reach and store relationships to show for it. Its unlimited annual plans ran $24.99, $44.99, and $54.99 a year when we checked its pricing page in September 2026, all including unlimited releases and 100% of streaming royalties. If you release a lot and want a long-established distributor with deep publishing services attached, it's a serious option. The place to look carefully is what happens to money that arrives from somewhere other than a stream.
TuneCore pays 100% of streaming royalties — as does LUCY. Unlimited-release annual plans at $24.99 / $44.99 / $54.99 per year. Long-standing store relationships and an established publishing arm
TuneCore's pricing page states a "20% fee" on earning money from TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. That's not a hidden charge — it's published, and it's specific to social and user-generated-content monetization rather than streaming. It matters because for a growing number of artists that's no longer a rounding error. If a track gets used across thousands of Reels or TikToks, social monetization can rival or beat streaming income, and a fifth of it is a real number. LUCY does not take a percentage of your royalties, and that includes the social side.
TuneCore's own pricing page lists a 20% fee on TikTok / Facebook / Instagram / YouTube monetization (checked September 2026). LUCY takes no percentage of your royalties on any plan. The gap widens as more of your income shifts from streams to short-form video
Like DistroKid, TuneCore is paid-only — the cheapest way onto the platform is an annual subscription. LUCY's Free plan distributes to the same 150+ platforms, with basic analytics and the full Academy, for nothing. If you're at the stage where you're deciding whether music is going to earn at all, that difference is the whole decision. And because LUCY bills month-to-month, moving up from Free happens when your catalog justifies it rather than at the start of an annual cycle.
LUCY Free: 150+ platforms, basic analytics, full Academy, $0. TuneCore: no free tier; annual plans only. LUCY Pro $9.99/mo and Label $29.99/mo, month-to-month, no lock-in
Publishing administration, mechanical royalties, performance royalties, and neighbouring rights are where most independent artists quietly lose money — not because a distributor is cheating them, but because nobody explained which pot pays what and who has to register for it. LUCY Academy covers all of it free, on every plan. Read the lessons on royalty types and publishing administration before you commit to any distributor's publishing add-on, including ours. An artist who understands the commission structure they're agreeing to makes a better decision, even if that decision isn't us.
Free lessons on royalty types, publishing administration, and rights registration. Written for independent artists, not label staff. Included on every plan, no email gate
